This thread is a microcosm of how insurgencies start. A sizable number of people have a minor or moderate problem with a change in the game. No one is compelled to affect change in their own right, however, because the change is not so damaging as to rob the experience of its enjoyment. However, a single instance of extraordinary circumstance occurs, and the formerly listless group of people springs into action. In reality only a few people have legitimately dire issues, or even issues that seriously threaten their enjoyment. Still, we all want to "sign" because we care. That's fine. I don't want anyone to leave the game. The problem is the momentum of emotions causes us to overreact. People end up encouraging lawsuits and calling ArenaNet heartless, even accusing the company of wanting players to stop playing, against all logic.

Look, AreneNet cares, and without making assumptions as to the programming limitations of the code itself, they want to help. If they could accommodate the OP easily, they would I believe. Fact is, someone at the company thinks there's greater appeal with the new GUI, and abandoning it because a few people have a major problem is not just inconvenient, it's bad policy. I started playing the game with Factions, and I enjoyed it so much I went back and bought Prophecies. I would have never bought Prophecies otherwise. Maybe the updated look will attract players that otherwise would not have given the game a look...who knows. ArenaNet is looking to grow membership to support the other types of enhancements and expansions its greater player base wants.

Any company that assuages the outlying few at the expense of the masses is a company that does not stick around. That's how it should be, as well. As a matter of policy, businesses must listen to the majority, or the majority goes elsewhere. There's no lack of MMORPGs out there. Another way to view this is that if ArenaNet decided to start making exceptions to the vast minority as many of you are suggesting here, who is to say when they should do so? Why make an exception on the GUI, but not on some other subject? Unfortunately, you can't please everyone, but it's much more manageable as a business to alienate the few as opposed to the many.

What irks me is the implicit declaration that ANet doesn't care. They are a business. They are here to make money. More than that though, I'm sure they have respect for their fan base. It is for that reason partially that they want to follow a path of decision-making that will garner more subscribers and please the masses. By doing this they are helping the community out directly, and indirectly, as only financial success ensure further support for the GW community down the road.

Again, I like the GUI, and I think that as time passes the community will further embrace the change. Sorry to inject some pragmatism into the thread, but though we all play in a fantastical world...we live in a real one.
Well stated. The bottom line is that it's just about the business. I sympathize with the topic creator definitely but in the pratical picture, with no offense to the topic creator herself, which would ANet be more concerned about?

Making drastic changes just to "please" the desires of one person, or a small group of players?

Or ensuring the majority of the fan base are happy? There are numerous posts here about people liking the new interface etc. I personally have nothing against it. I like the progression bar colors from blue to gold, with purple meaning the spell failed.

The only way I could see Anet make the changes you're all asking for is if the complaint came from someone up in the ranks of Anet itself, say for example the son or daughter of the head of the company etc. But then again, even if that happened, I'm sure they would have access to the codes etc and just tweak it for themselves.

And I agree with Gaile's (paraphrased) "If this was the original interface when GW was released, would you have complained? I think not" comment. Completely true. If people really leave this game just because of a change in looks (any physical/mental side effects as a result of the interface aside), then I pity them and they deserve the title of nub.

Jenias_Perta_Ectara, sorry to hear about the negative effects of the interface change.
I myself have not seen it yet since I'm on vacation without Guild Wars, but in the situation that you haven't contacted ArenaNet yet, here's the link: http://guildwars.com/support/. It's quite simple from there on, and you should get a reply within a few days.

But yeah, I do support the idea that we can change back to the older interfaces. =)

Hope you're able to continue playing the game and enjoy time with your friends. That's pretty much the reason I play too, my closest friends in real life (most of them at least, girls in my school don't really play GW ) play the game as well.

Sorry to hear you are having problems Jen,and it is sad that you have decided to leave.
Your post was so nice, and I had a tear in me eye when I read it .

I have been around pcs since the 70s,and use to work for ICL,spose thats what got me in to gaming later.
I'm now 58 years of age,with loving wife kids,etc

Thing is 3 years ago,I was attacked by a disturbed patient in the hospital where I work, this resulted in an eye injury, that had to be put right by laser treatment.
I am now partially sighted in that eye,I can see all the images etc,but cannot read from that eye,so my left eye compensates for the loss of the right.
Games I love, especially GW,and try and get online whenever I can.
I get on ok with the new interface, but dont like the shading,or the bright colours, they seem too vivid, and when I use poison it seems as though I`m casting it on meself.
I would not stop playing it,because of it,but if I had a preferance it would be for the old style,so I think ANet should have a F11 key.choice would be nice.

I know how you must feel in some ways, because I hope I dont lose any sight in my left eye, because if I did I would have to stop playing games,as I would not be able to see the writing, come to think of it I would be lucky if I was able to watch the TV .So I hope as I get older this does not happen.

I`ve read all the posts on here, and one person said have you tried wearing a tinted specs, which seem a good idea.

The only other solution I think is,what type of monitor do you have,is it a crt tube type,or the newer LCD type??.
I`m not saying go out and buy a new monitor,a lot of LCD monitors are a lot more vivid in colour,if you have an old CRT laying around,or a friend has one try it,as the colours are not as vivid,as an avid gamer, and a member of a COD clan I will not use the LCD,as some colours just dont look right, plus you can only go to one screen size,as with a CRT you can crank the size,as high as possible.
I hope you find a solution, and if you do get in game look me up,and we will have a good old chat,Darkest Craft is the name.
Good Luck to you Jen.

Default Accessibility in Games

Hi all,

I'm a new GWs player, and happened on this post more accidentally than anything. I was actually at a conference recently where one of the speakers was discussing accessibility in games. I thought these links might be useful for the OP, general readers, or ArenaNet devs that might read this post:

- IGDA GA SIG - http://www.igda.org/accessibility/
- Game-Accessibility - http://www.game-accessibility.com/
- ICS-FORTH - http://www.ics.forth.gr/hci/ua-games/
- AGRIP - http://www.agrip.org.uk/
- AGDev - http://www.agdev.org/

These include information on developers building accessible games, groups trying to establish standards and tools, and case studies (i.e. Valve included closed captioning in Half Life 2, and commented that it wasn't significant overhead and actually gave them facilities that made localization easier).

Cheers.

Thank you everyone very much for all the post and all the replies, although I did get a few nasty messages and I did get a few nasty emails... and I lost a few ally friends. I have left Guild Wars, it has been a long time since I have signed in. So for all thsoe who thought it was not possible, yes you CAN quit Guild Wars.

I guess to sum it all up. Guild Wars was the nicest game I had played in a long while, before I found it I had given up on games. When I found it, I thought this game will be the last, I knew it would be. so that is it, giving up on games forever. I am glad I was obught to Guild Wars, it gave me some of the happiest moments in the darkest hours, when I needed people to chat to the most. Though I also found when I left, people dissapeared. Perhaps the friends you make in game, stay in game.

I want to say that I want to wish everyone and the staff behind Guild Wars the best of luck with Night Fall. I am dissapointed in some of the staff but overall I know they do a GEAT job. I give them my best wishes.

And Last of all. I would just like to say that I love all my angels, even if I loose touch with you, none of you will be forgotten, all those I knew in game, in chat rooms, in voice, in messenger. You all will have a place in my heart. I hope just one of you see this message so you can tell others within the various communities I visted. My heart has a lot of love to give, if I do not see many of you again as I slowly stop visiting the communities because I no longer can relate to the topic of conversation, know that the love I have to give... is not going anywhere.

Stay Safe my Angels }å{ Fight untill your sword breaks, untill you lie on your back towards the sun, fight untill you can no longer move, then stare at the tunnel you. Slowly then fight the darkness, untill you can see light. Never give up fighting till the bliss is yours upon the night.

Thank you for everything Everyone.

GW as SO the wrong game for you - you'll be happier in a game more suited to actual role-playing where your sense of self-depricating drama will be a huge boon to you. Look for Neverwinter Nights 2 when it comes out.

Well better yet why not just Text roleplay? There are MUDs (text only MMOs where you're never out of character) where you just use your imagination. =P

I don't blame the OP but a paradoxex and others are right after all.

I have no issues with the UI or the old one I actually find the new UI better and colors don't bother me.. my buttons are tiny and hardly ever affect me. Same thing goes for a lot more people than the small sum of those who don't like it.

Also videogames are NOT the number one place to make friends.. They're there to play the game and hang out with those who play the game.

FinalFantasy XI great people in it but never will you actually talk to them outside of the game.

I understand real friends are hard to come by given your situation but there are other ways.
